10U Brooklands vs Prestbury Summer League
By Angela Cuddy
The closest match I've ever seen!!
Joseph, Alex, Oliver & Mags lined up to face Prestbury today. It was cloudy but no wind, amazingly for Brooklands!
Joseph and Alex played singles, whilst Oliver and Mags played their doubles first round. All three rubbers tested the endurance and concentration of the players, going the full three sets over an hour and a half. Joseph and Alex lost out, both by just 2 points in the third set tie break, it's always disappointing when you lose a close game but they both played so well, it just wasn't their day. Oliver and Mags had better luck in their tie break decider, winning it 10-5.
Oliver had the most straightforward of the second round, winning his singles match 4-0, 4-1. Mags also took just 2 sets to win her singles, the first was very close but she kicked on in the second to win 5-3, 4-1. It really was not Joseph and Alex's day, losing the doubles in a third set tie break, they battled so hard, I really felt for them.
So that left us at 3 rubbers all and a shoot out was needed to decide the fixture. Joseph and Oliver stepped forward for us and it was neck and neck for a while, but our boys gradually pulled ahead and won it 10-7. Phew! They definitely earnt their drinks and snacks after that!!
